Barefoot Kuata Day Trip Awakening Shark Dive – Cert. Divers only
It is no secret that Fiji is world-famous for Shark Diving. Rare are places in the world where you can jump in the water and meet wild, 2-3 metre sharks! The Barefoot Collection has created a shark dive that you shouldn’t miss! It’s the elusive Bull Shark! Other shark species that have also been sighted in the Awakening Shark Dive site include Tiger Sharks, Lemon Sharks, Tawny Nurse Sharks, Reef Sharks and occasionally Silver tip Sharks. Let our shark experts give you an intimate insight into the lives of the sharks in their natural habitat, all year round.
The beautiful island of Kuata, the gateway to the Yasawa Islands is accessible by Awesome Adventures Fiji on their fast speed catamaran the Yasawa Flyer II. A spectacular two hour cruise that departs from Denarau Marina every morning at 0830. You will arrive at Barefoot Kuata which is unmistakable with it`s white beaches, huge volcanic mountains and the famous Phantom Rock caves. You will be welcomed on the beach by singing and grinning locals who will guide you to the day centre for a brief on the day’s action.
During your welcome briefing you will be advised by your Dive Crew as to what time you will depart the resort to your dive site that will give you an experience never to be forgotten.
Meet your Dive Instructor at your scheduled time and during your briefing you will complete your medical and assessment form. During this time you will be given a safety briefing and fitted with all of your dive equipment. Now for the fun stuff – board the dive boat for a 15 minute ride to The Awakening Shark Dive site.
This dive has a maximum depth of 12 metres. You will be guided by your dive crew to the specially constructed low reef wall for this dive. Once everyone is in position the sharks are fed either on the ground in front of you or in open water a few metres above using fish head providing the perfect opportunity to see the apex predators up close. You will spend approximately 45 minutes bottom time.
Unlike most dive sites in Fiji we have strict rules for feeding the sharks. No hand feeding as we pole feed only. We train the sharks that there is no point in coming to close and must behave.
You will be on the island for about five hours and will have time to swim in the pools, snorkel, kayak, SUP, go for a bush walk or perhaps buy some souvenirs from the shell market or the many other activities. A freshly cooked buffet lunch will take up some of your time and can be washed down with an ice cold beer or cocktail from the bar. The local Fijian staff are very proud of their island paradise and will warm your hearts with genuine hospitality. Sadly the boat will pick you up for a return to Denarau Marina approximately 3:30pm.
*Please Note that all introductory dives are subject to participants filling out a medical form. There are some medical conditions that are not compatible with diving. There should be a twelve hour gap between doing this dive and boarding a commercial aircraft. We dont guarantee guests will see reef shark sighting however we haven’t been disappointed yet.
